Tap's Anti Algae Pads are designed to be placed directly into the pond filter and can be cut to size. If they are to be used in a pond without a filter they will need to be weighed down with e.g. a rock.
The pads attack the algae in 4 different ways:
- Environmental - the pad is impregnated with 2 inorganic buffers that help reduce and control the pH levels. A lowering pH will reduce Algae presence.
- Biological - The pad will trap nutrients from the water. Enzymes will aid the breakdown of these nutrients, reducing Algae growth.
- Chemical - The pads contain a powerful chemical agent that is slowly released and is effective against 80% of known Algae varieties including blanket weed and green water.
- Mechanical - The open cell properties and uniform structure of the pad ensure that, when placed in a filter, plantonic Algae are trapped within the pad.
Dosage: Medium sized - 1 pad per 5000 litres of pond water. XL - 1 pad per 10,000 litres of pond water. In Koi ponds without pond plants 1 Medium pad should be used per 2500 litres or 1 XL pad per 1250 litres. For large ponds multiple pads may be used.
These pads should be replaced every 3 months during pond season. Where algae growth is particularly prolific, they should be replaced every month. If they become clogged with pond debris, they may be rinsed in pond water.
Please note that dying algae decreases water oxygen levels as does hot weather. It is important to flush out your pond with fresh (dechlorinated) water regularly in these circumstances.
It is not recommended that any treatments be added to your pond last thing at night.
